Did y’all hear that??? I think someone said “stay K” and Urban Swank girls in the same sentence; since we love a good staycation…YES PLEASE!
Last month we got invited to check out The Woodlands Resort in The Woodlands, which many consider a suburb of Dallas (Houston joke for the distance from the center of the city), but we know The Woodlands is only a short hike up I-45 North.
We decided this would be a girl’s trip, but then realized that we couldn’t go at the same time, Swanky Girl would arrive on Friday and Urban Girl could not come until Saturday. Since it’s been a while since Swanky Girl has had a “me day” she decided to make Friday a day about her. Then Saturday and Sunday we would hang out and explore the resort and The Woodlands.
Friday – Swanky Girl has a “me day”
First, let me tell you a little bit about The Woodlands Resort & Conference Center. This place is huge and has lots to offer business travelers, families, couples and friends looking for a quick getaway. Check out some of the amenities we would have to choose from during our time there:
- Spa and Fitness Center
- Tennis Courts
- Golf Courses
- Four Different Restaurants
- 200 plus miles of trails to explore via hiking or by bike (the resort offers bike rentals)
Since I was solo on this day, I decided it would be an afternoon of getting pampered at the spa and then off to a great dinner and cocktails! And let me tell you the spa is top notch! My week was a little stressful, so I wanted to completely relax my body and clear my head before my massage, so I spent 30 minutes in the steam room followed by another 30 minutes in the relaxation area. Then came my Swedish massage which was exactly what I needed and was a great start to my evening.
Cocktail from Sidebar
Next, I decided to have a few pre-dinner cocktails at one of my favorite spots in the area, Sidebar, which is located at The Westin. The drinks and the view are fantastic! It is definitely a hidden gem that you will want to visit on future trips to this area.
Saturday – Let’s Explore
We started the day with street food by way of Bernie’s Backyard. There are four food trucks there every day, and after perusing through menus and their daily specials, we had chosen our feast: juicy burgers from Black Garlic, loaded chili cheese fries from The Naked Fry, and tacos two ways from Oh My Gogi. Add that to the live band and the cash bar, and you have yourselves a great place to post up on a weekend afternoon with the family.
It was now time for a drink and tiki cocktails were on the brain. We don’t have many spots to enjoy these traditionally fruity concoctions, so a stop at Howie’s Tiki was a must. After toasting and raising our glasses in honor of the rum cocktail, we focused our attention on filling our bellies with some Creole and Cajun cuisine from Schilleci’s New Orleans Kitchen. Po-boys, gumbo, and crawfish bisque (filled to the brim with gigantic crawdads) transported us back to Nawlins, even if just for a few hours.
Seafood Tower at Robard’s
Did you think we were done yet? Well, ya girls gotta eat dinner, and steak seemed just perfect. We ended our day of food back at the resort with a dinner at Robard’s Steakhouse. We enjoyed beautiful views, noshed on a cold seafood tower (stacked high with lobster, jumbo lump crab, shrimp, and oysters), sipped on red wine, and rounded it off with a bone in ribeye – which we split.
Sunday – Brunch & Shopping
This was our last day of the trip and Urban Girl started the day at the spa getting pampered, while Swanky Girl went on a morning hike at one of the many trails near the resort followed by some time at the pool and floating on the lazy river.
Trina Turk Store on Market Street
Before leaving The Woodlands, we decided to stop off for a little brunch and some power shopping on Market Street which was only a short drive from the resort. This is an open shopping area complete with restaurants, bars, shops, etc. Many of our favorite shops like Trina Turk, Kate Spade, Luke’s Locker, and Sur La Table are located there, so we did a little fall shopping before heading home.
We highly recommend The Woodlands Resort for a weekend getaway or family trip because there is a little something for everyone to enjoy. You can be active like us and explore the area or spend all your time on property!
