In a food obsessed city like Houston, an event which pays tribute to one of the state’s defining pastries, the kolache, seems only natural. On Saturday morning May 5th, the inaugural ‘Kolache Factory Challenge 5K’ comes to Houston’s Energy Corridor District. Kolaches are known to be eaten on the run and this event literally puts ‘on the run’ to the test!
People who sign up for the ‘challenge’ will be tasked with eating three sausage and cheese kolaches from the event’s title sponsor, Kolache Factory, halfway through the 5K and then complete the rest of the race. There is also the casual 5K option where
participants will have the option of eating one kolache during the 5K. Afterwards, more kolaches from Kolache Factory await all participants in the post-race area!
A portion of all the net proceeds from the event will go to Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM). Through monetary donations, MAM has been integral assisting families both financially and with new clothing and furniture in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey. The proceeds donated will continue to help families this year.
The cost is $35 per person until April 1st, $40 from April 1-April 27 and $45 on the week of the event. Families are encouraged to participate together and there will also be a Kids 1K event for children 12 and under taking place one hour after the event which
