Initial Thoughts

Go for the sushi!, Modern & trendy, Don't sleep on the cocktails

Located in the new Gateway Memorial City complex just across the way from Memorial City Mall, KUU Restaurant fits well into its new digs. Surrounded by a steakhouse and option for Latin American fare (with more new restaurants to come), KUU seems to round out what we feel is a great addition to the West side of town. Like many innovative restaurants, KUU, serving up Japanese cuisine, is a complete dining experience. Offering ever-changing seasonal features, in addition to the traditional, you will find a few hidden surprises throughout the menu. This place was definitely "next level" and finding out that KUU was Japanese for "the art of eating", it all came together.

We sampled a few items from the "Hot" menu, like their Akaushi Beef Hot Rock, Braised Pork Jowl and the Miso Black Cod, which made our "Best Thing We Ate" list for March. However, they excelled in their sushi and sashimi offerings. The Rin (shrimp tempura, cream cheese, crab mix, serrano pepper, spicy aioli, & micro cilantro) and signature roll, the KUU (asian pear, yuzu, koshō, avocado, tuna, lobster claw meat, & edamame purée), is where it is at! And let's not forget the cocktails; one word...IMPRESSIVE. KUU Restaurant is on the pricey side, but we felt that the food and the experience were well worth it.
