The Austin Food & Wine Festival brought the fun to Austin last weekend and we were lucky enough to be in the house enjoying all the things we look forward to each year. The daytime festivities are the perfect place to sample tasty eats from some of the top local restaurants, sip on wine and cocktails from various wineries and liquor brands, and simply enjoy being out and about partaking in all things delish with fellow food lovers.
After spending a few days at several festival events, we wanted to share some highlights and our favorite haps from the weekend!
“With the greatest lineup we have ever had, Austin Food + Wine is proud to be ranked with top Food & Wine festivals in the U.S.,” says chef/partner, Tim Love.
On Saturday we headed over to the festival grounds at Auditorium Shores where we jumped right into the mix and crowds of lovely people. A refreshing beverage was the first thing on the brain and lucky for us, there was was plenty to partake in.
Moving on to the food, we found ourselves double-fisting just to keep up. There was definitely more to drink than eat this year, and unfortunately that meant we didn’t get the try it all (some places were sold out pretty quickly) but what we did get to sample was mighty fine.
Shout out to Knotty Deck & Bar for those banging Frito pies, Hudson Meats for their delicious sausage, and to Garrison Restaurant for their heavenly melt-in-your-moth Black Garlic & Foie Meringues.
We smoked ourselves out, literally, stepping behind the scenes at the live Fire Pits. Popular chefs were cooking over open fire with massive pits stacked high with juicy meats, luscious pineapple, and even a whole hog. We hung out for a quick minute with Rodney Scott as he put his magic on those mouthwatering ribs.
We caught up with chef Tim Love a few times over the weekend, but got some one-on-one time during Saturday night’s Rock Your Taco event. He was the reigning champion from last year but his Smelt Taco didn’t bring it home again for 2018. This year, Jamie Bissonnette brought home the crown with this Thai pork sausage taco. We even got to meet Amanda Freitag from Chopped which was EVERYTHING.
Well there you have it folks, another awesome festival goes down in the books! Here’s to looking forward to 2019!
