Art exhibits, exhibitions, events, and shows are vast here in Houston. Just as us Houstonians venture out to bask (or bake) in the sun at the nearest park with pets and family in tow, we are just as excited to satisfy our mental curiosities enjoying, exploring, and discovering art in all its various mediums and forms. And because art is just cool, here are five pretty awesome art events that not only show that Houston's art game is a force to be reckoned with, but it also highlights the amazing talent in our artistically rich city.

Artrageous at The Grand 1894 Opera House | May 6, 2017

This “crossover” experience combines music and art to bring you a unique and one-of-a-kind event. Held at The Grand 1894 Opera House in Galveston, Artrageous takes guest interaction and audience participation to new levels. As you are wowed by singing and dancing via artists and musicians, they will simultaneously create amazing pieces of art right before your eyes – live! Sit back while you are taken on a visual journey with this high energy show that will be both creative and fun for the entire family.

ARTcetera at Winter Street Studios | May 11, 2017

Houston artists take over Winter Street Studios in an event that supports a great cause, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Another interactive and live art show, the 7th annual ARTcetera will give you a behind the scenes look into the creative process of some of Houston’s most talented artists. This event is perfect for art lovers, collectors and enthusiasts who will all get a rare chance to interact with the artists as they bring their visions to life!

All Metal Art Show at Brash Brewing Company | June 3, 2017

I’m always intrigued by different forms of art and this art show was fascinating in that each participating artist must incorporate metal in some way into their creations. Over 30 of Houston’s best will convene on Brash Brewing Company for the All Metal Art Show to show off their skills in creating art in their chosen medium using scrap metal (think painting on metal or placing photography on metal in an interesting way)! There will also be live music, food trucks and a fencing competition. Yeah, that’s just cool.

Pancake and Booze Art Show at Warehouse Live | June 9-10, 2017

A few times a year, the Pancake and Booze Art Show makes its way back to Houston. This traveling show can also be seen in nearby cities like Austin and San Antonio and even in other major cities including San Diego, Seattle, and Atlanta. So what exactly does the show consist of? Well aside from the obvious pancakes (there will be a pancake bar) and booze, the event in an underground art show featuring over 120 emerging artists along with live body painting and live DJ’s. Not sure what I am more excited about, the pancakes or the art!

Pop Shop Houston Summer Festival at Silver Street Studios | June 10, 2017

Pop Shop Houston always hosts fun pop up shops, markets, and art festivals and I was stoked when I saw they had scheduled their summer shindig. I was all over it and had to share! They do a great job at these curated events and this one is no different. At this craft fair and art festival, you will find visual art exhibitions, craft workshops, vintage and handmade items, live musical performances, and even a tasting lounge with craft cocktails. Sounds like my kind of event!

And don’t forget the ongoing art exhibitions available at the Museum of Fine Arts, Art League of Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum, Children’s Museum of Houston, The Menil Collection, Station Museum of Contemporary Art, Blaffer Art Museum at the University of Houston, Houston Museum of African American Culture, Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, and many more!
