Aside from the carnival games, rides, food, awesome concert lineup (sorry folks, Garth Brooks is already sold out), the highly anticipated World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest, and the rodeo events (steer wrestling, chuckwagon races, bull riding, bareback riding , and more) the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is an almost three-week experience chocked full of fun for the entire family. Because there are always so many options each year, we wanted to share some of the events that should not be missed!
This is hands down one of our favorite events of the year! Not only will you get to sample over 400-award-winning wines, but you’ll also get an opportunity to enjoy first hand the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion wines from the 2018 International Wine Competition that took place this past November. If that doesn’t seal the deal, then maybe the 100 top Houston restaurants that are all competing for “Best Bites” will. And the even better part…you get to eat it all; well as much as your stomach will allow! This event sells out every year (and early) so submit your order form like yesterday.
The HLSR has lots of events and things for the kids, but nothing beats The Junction! The Junction…aka kids country, has it all for the little ones – everything from a petting zoo to a farm-to-market exhibit that is out of this world. In years past we may have had more fun than the kids in this area enjoying the carnival games and rides. Parents don’t say we didn’t warn you that a good time will be had by all!
Rodeo Rockstar is perfect for those who love to sing and want to show off their chops to the public, and of course, to claim that grand prize. All you have to do is submit an audition video via YouTube and the public will vote online to determine who will compete in the Preliminary and Final Rounds – held during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Entries are open now through January 12th with the final round taking place on March 13th. There is money, a full day of professional studio recording, and a live performance on the line. What a great opportunity to kick-start that singing career you’ve been dreaming about foreva and eva!
Wine, Wine, Wine, and more wine please! That’s what you get when you enter the Champion Wine Garden. This wine lovers utopia features more than 70 wines from the rodeo’s international wine competition. So make an event out of it and enjoy a seminar or stop by before the rodeo and enjoy a glass or two.
We all know that the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo have some of the best music performances from the best in country music gracing the main stage every year. But did you know that some of the best up and coming musicians can be found there too? Just make your way to The Hideout, the rodeo’s very own honky tonk, for some major dancing and fun. Each day there will be a different featured performer, so click here to see the schedule.
Did we list any of your favorites? If not, let us know which HLSR event makes your top 5!
