Rodeo Uncorked! 2014 is almost here! On Sunday, February 23, 2014, thousands will make their way to Reliant Center to take part in a wine and food extravaganza. Specifically, guests will be able to sample top wines from the Rodeo Uncorked! International Wine Competition and delicious eats during the Best Bites Competition. We enjoyed the event so much last year that we wanted to get a head start. Houston’s best come out to show and prove (the contest is super competitive and quite impressive) so we wanted to see what they had up their sleeves for 2014.

How do you decide on what you will make for the Rodeo Uncorked! Best Bites Competition? It is a very hard decision. Sometimes we offer new products that we have recently introduced into our bakery. Other times we offer items that have proven to be a big hit in our stores. There is so much potential for new clients at this event that we do put a lot of thought into what we will offer as we want to put our best foot forward in providing a tasty and memorable dessert that will bring new customers into our stores.
Oh La La is our go to place to satisfy our sweet tooth. If you could only offer only one selection at your bakery, what would it be? This is a tough question. Right now our top sellers are the cupcakes, but what makes our bakery special is the wide selection of desserts we offer daily.
When it comes to desserts, the competition is pretty fierce at Rodeo Uncorked! Best Bites. What makes your desserts special and why do you think you will win this year? Our desserts are special because we use the highest quality ingredients. We always try to provide a dessert to the judges that will stand out not just because it tasted great, but because the presentation looks great as well. Hopefully with both of those qualities we will bring home another buckle.

Ooh La La’s Jumbo Chocolate Chip Cookies
Yields: 24 Extra Large Cookies
1 lb. 8 oz. Butter (softened)
3 c. Granulated Sugar
3 c. Brown Sugar
8 ea. Eggs
1 T. 1 t. Vanilla
9 c. AP Flour
1 T 1 t. Baking Soda
1 T 1 t. Salt
8 c. Chocolate Chips
1. Combine butter and both sugars in mixing bowl with paddle
2. Beat at medium speed until very light and fluffy, scraping down occasionally.
3. Add eggs and vanilla and mix until well incorporated.
4. Combine dry ingredients together and add to above on low speed, mix just until it is completely incorporated. (Don’t Over mix)
5. Add chocolate chips and mix to incorporate. Refrigerate dough
6. Portion out cookies with portion scoops.
7. Bake at 350 degrees for ten minutes, turn pans, bake for an additional 10-12 minutes until olden around the edges and lighter toward the center.
