When we were asked if we wanted to attend a beer and taco dinner hosted by Southern Star Brewery and Fusion Taco, we were surely not going to pass up the opportunity! We have been wanting to sample Fusion Taco ever since they transitioned from a food truck to a brick & mortar and we are always game to add a few pages of knowledge to our beer repertoire (although it is quite small in stature). The beer dinner was held at Fusion Taco’s fairly new downtown location. For $38, guests enjoyed five courses of beer and taco pairings with the added advantage of having a Southern Star Brewery expert walk them through that who, what, when, and why.

The first course of the tuna tartare was a favorite mainly because of the wonton shell. It provided the perfect crisp for the soft tuna and the avocado was an added welcome. The pork tacos were great and also topped our list. They were cooked perfectly and were flavorful and tender. Since we are not fans of “hoppy” beers, we enjoyed the stout the best. Their Buried Hatchet Stout was served at around 65 degrees (should not be served cold) and is actually a favorite of the owner as well. I guess we do have good taste in beers! Our least favorite of the night had to be the Old Potentate and the lamb taco pairing. We found the taco to be way too spicy and the lamb just got lost in all the heat. It didn’t help that it was paired with a spicy ale.

Overall, we had a great time learning  about Southern Star Brewery and finally getting a chance to check out Fusion Taco. We highly recommended both!
