Just when you thought Pinkberry had settled into its well deserved spot as what I call the “grown folks” place for ice cream, they are already one step ahead of their competition. Last month, Pinkberry introduced a new “line” of yogurt. This silky smooth variant, Pinkberrygreek, is an all natural, fresh and never frozen, Greek yogurt. For those that make Greek yogurt a part of their everyday routine, as do I, you should be jumping up and down right about now.

For their Greek yogurt, Pinkberry partnered with a farmer, located in Louisiana, whose focus is on sustainable farming. They can actually tell you the exact cow the yogurt came from! Each serving of their Greek yogurt (5 oz.) is 15 servings (15g) of protein and only 80 calories. They don’t have to sell you on the health benefits as they are already well known and documented. I love the fact that I can visit Pinkberry and not be limited to what I have in my own fridge. And another huge plus…the Greek yogurt at Pinkberry doesn’t have the bitter after bite that you find in some frozen Greek yogurt. Their Greek yogurt officially rounded out their yogurt bar concept where you can now top it off, smooth it out, or get your parfait on!

During our media preview, we got the chance to do all three…starting with the signature pairings:

Chocolate Berry: Blueberry, raspberry, dark chocolate granola, chocolate shavings, cinnamon honey
Strawberry Mango: Strawberry, mango, strawberry puree, toasted almonds, shaved coconut
Kiwi Strawberry: Kiwi, strawberry, mango, honey almond granola, vanilla agave nectar
Tomato Basil: Grape tomato, fresh basil, olive oil, sea salt, balsamic glaze
Sunflower Cucumber: Cucumber, sunflower seed bites, olive oil, chili powder

The Greek yogurt can be topped with a variety of Pinkberry goodness; covering the taste spectrum from sweet all the way to savory. Savory yogurt??? Yes, and the exact same thoughts that are running through your mind at this very moment were shared by everyone in attendance. I wanted to be proven wrong so bad…and I was; partially. First, we sampled the Chocolate Berry which I loved. Anything that combines rich and sweet chocolate with the bitterness of a fruit, like raspberry, will always win. The Strawberry Mango was great as well and I especially enjoyed the toasted almonds paired with the shaved coconut. I am not a huge kiwi fan as it can be a bit too bitter for me, so the Kiwi Strawberry was not my favorite. But minus the kiwi, this one rocked.

We finished up this portion of the tasting with the savory options: Tomato Basil and Sunflower Cucumber. The Tomato Basil was a no go for me. If the balsamic glaze had been a tad bit sweeter, it would have balanced out the flavors that seemed bland in this pairing. However, the Sunflower Cucumber was memorable. I loved the hint of heat from the chili powder combined with the subtle profile of the cucumber.

Although I enjoyed the yogurt and the plethora of fresh and creative toppings, the highlight of the day were the smoothies. The typical Pinkberry yogurt in my banana strawberry smoothie was swapped out for the Greek yogurt – pure genius. It transformed the smoothie, into a true creamy delight, without losing the dessert-like taste of the smoothie. I even took one to go and had it for lunch! If you are a fan of the creamy goodness like I am…the Pinkberrygreek is now available at all Houston-area locations (Highland Village, The Woodlands Mall and Baybrook Passage in Webster).
