“Time to make the wine” – you guessed it, grape harvest season is upon us! There is no better way to celebrate than with one of Urban Swank’s favorite Texas wineries, Messina Hof Winery.
A few weeks back, we visited Messina Hof for their Moonlit Harvest to help kick off the start of their harvest season with many other guests. That included an evening of fun activities, wine tasting, good eats, and just an overall funky fresh good time. Last year, we were picking from their beautiful lenoir grapes that were to be used to make their award winning port. This years focus was on their white wines and we enjoyed every minute of it. It is truly a family affair at Messina Hof and Paul and Merrill Bonarrigo are always there to showcase why they were named “Top All-Around Winery” at the 2013 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
This is the thirty-sixth year of harvest festivities for their Bryan location and the first occasion for a harvest at the company’s Fredericksburg estate. In Bryan, which is the location we visited, guests can experience first-hand grape picking and foot-stomping as well as other amenities that include t-shirts to personalize with grape-stained footprints, harvest feast lunches, food and wine pairing seminars and specialty dinners. The Fredericksburg guests may also pick and stomp grapes, enjoy wine with lunch and experience exclusive live music into the evening.
Their summer series of grape harvest activities are going on every weekend through August 3, 2013. There are still 3 weekends left to take part in the harvest events, which will wrap-up with a Grand Finale gala on August 3rd for the Bryan location and the Messina Hof Harvest & Music Festival on August 10th for the Fredericksburg location.
