What does comfort food mean to you? Is it the dish that reminds you of home or is it just your go to dish when you want to enjoy a relaxing evening on the couch and in front of the TV? Well, for me it’s both. Comfort food invokes a feeling of warmth, it is always satisfying, and damn good! That is exactly the kind of food Executive Chef Lance Fegen is serving up with his new menu at BRC Gastropub. Every year, BRC Gastropub’s menu changes in an effort to align with what their customers want when it comes to “like your mama used to make” comfort food.

Chef Lance has created items like the Foie Gras Poutine (crispy fries, chilled foie gras, mushroom brown gravy, and farm cheese), the Smoked Brisket-Short Rib Meatloaf (served with cooked egg, banana ketchup topping, Yukon mashed potatoes, and brown mushroom gravy), and the Fried Chicken and Cheddar Biscuits (served with cheddar cheese, cream gravy, bacon jam, and sweet jalapenos). Yep, sounds pretty comforting to me!

Given that macaroni and cheese is my absolute favorite thing to eat on earth, I was overwhelmed with excitement when I came across the Mac and Cheese portion of the menu. Offering up one classic and two twists on the original, you can play it safe or you can try something different. If you are feeling adventurous and prefer to take the scenic route, try ordering the crushed meatball or duck fat & foie gras macaroni and cheese. The choice is yours.

A few of our other favorites are the Cream Corn (corn “milk”, cilantro, key lime, and fresh chilies) and the Cheddar Biscuits and Bacon Jam. They are life changing.

I think Chef Fegen pretty much hit the nail on the head. He has been able to combine Southern favorites, put his magic in the mix, and come up with several items that would satisfy any comfort food connoisseur. So make it a date! Take your boo or your crew and take a trip back down memory lane with some of BRC’s takes on American comfort food.
