There is a new restaurant in town that wants to get our love! Not only are they trying to entice us with mouth-watering regular menu items like their Fontina Chop (boneless pork chop, Fontina cheese, garlic, prosciutto, mushroom Marsala wine sauce) and their Bang Bang Shrimp (crispy, tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce), but they are also trying to seduce us with amazing specials like the Spinach Bacon Gorgonzola Atlantic Salmon (topped with sautéed spinach, crispy bacon and creamy Gorgonzola cheese) and their Crab Crusted New Zealand Dory (garlic and crab crumb dusted, topped with crab, white wine lemon sauce, served with garlic whipped potatoes). Did we mention that they also have their own exclusive flavor of Blue Bell ice cream? Now that we’ve got you all hungry and bothered, guess we need to do the BIG reveal…Bonefish Grill is the restaurant.

During a recent media dinner, we got the opportunity to enjoy a few cocktails and to sample a few items from the menu. The start of the evening proved to me somewhat questionable as the cocktails were on the sweet side. We believe that some cocktails are for sipping and others are for drinking. The Pomegranate Martini, made with homemade infused vodka, pomegranate and mango, could have used another jigger, but the White Sangria was an excellent take on the traditional. As we continued to review the cocktail menu, the appetizers started to roll in.

Over the span of 5 minutes, we developed a love/hate relationship with the Bang Bang Shrimp. We absolutely loved them, but we clearly understood the impact to our waistline. Piled high in a medium-sized bowl, these things were like Lays Potato Chips; we determined very quickly that we couldn’t eat just one! They were tender on the inside and crispy on the outside and the dash of spice along with the pinch of sweetness made these a definite choice for our next visit.

Next, we sampled a few entrees of fresh fish and steaks and were happily surprised at the freshness of the accompanying vegetables like their sauteed spinach and asparagus. You could order a veggie plate at this place and be a happy camper. The fish selections were expansive and were all cooked perfectly; even the Atlantic Salmon, which is always hard to get just right. The Chilean Sea Bass was tender, flaky, moist…and just fabulous! Their optional Signature Sauces are also a plus; who doesn’t love chimichurri? This is truly the place for fresh fish…no doubt about that.

They have just opened their second location in Northwest Houston; they opened the first one in Webster back in August. Bonefish is a restaurant that is all about the experience, which you know we love. One of their main focuses when they opened 12 years ago, was to create a unique dining experience for people “that would take the mystery out of fish for people who didn’t eat it very often”. Many of us are used to going to steakhouses that have some fish offerings, but this is a fish house that offers steak and a few other things. At this price point and with the vast amount of choices and options, we believe Bonefish gives you a ton of bang for your buck. Even if you go just to try their exclusive Peanut Butter ice cream, you will be glad you went!
