We love when our favorite restaurants and bars refresh or change their menus, because it gives us new things to try. Many times we still love our old faithful menu classics, but sometimes a new kid on the block will get in there and take all the love. We wondered would this be the case with the new menu that was introduced last month at 1252 Tapas Bar?!?! Since, this authentic Spanish restaurant is already serving up some of our favorite tasty dishes like the Chrizo y Patata & Empanadas de Res.
They hosted a media dinner last month that would not only give us an opportunity to try the new menu items, but to try LOTS of the menu items since most things were served community style. A few of our stand-outs from the new menu were:
Empanadas de Maiz (sweet corn, tetilla cheese empanadas, and chimichurri) – The fresh sweet corn shined and provided the right amount of sweetness. We found ourselves trying to decide if this would make us leave their delicious beef empanadas for good! Then we figured why choose when we could have them both.
Patatas Bravas (fried potatoes, lemon aioli, and brava sauce) – How could potatoes and two sauces be so delicious?!?!? All we can say is be prepared to keep eating them, because they are stupid good.
Montadito (sourdough bread, house cured salmon, goat cheese, and truffled honey) – Anything topped with the distinctive flavor and creamy texture of goat cheese is always headed in the right direction. Some may find goat cheese to be a little too “tangy” but the mild salmon and sweetness from the honey rounded out the flavor profile that made this dish great.
Not only are the tapas dishes great, but they offer seasonally fresh and a consistently tasty selection of cocktails. There are two many to name, but here’s some that stuck with us:
White Sangria (white wine base with fresh fruit juices and fortified with spirits) – We have never gone to 1252 Tapas and not ordered at least one round. This is some of the best sangria in town.
Ambrosia (Hendrink’s Gin, elderflower liquer, agave nectar, muddles limes, cinnamon, and soda) – This Hendrick’s Gin based cocktail intermingled with the flavors of agave nectar and cinnamon are refreshing, light and great for sipping.
Blueberry Lemondrop (Stoli Blueberry Vodka, citrus vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup) – Can the real lemondrop martini please stand up! If there is ever a discussion around how a lemondrop should taste, then look no further. This one is slightly sweet, not overbearing, and you will be tempted to order more than one.
1252 Tapas is a great destination for tapas and you won’t find many people that will argue with that statement. No matter which location you choose, the vibe is relaxing yet energetic, and with live music on select nights, you will be sure to enjoy a wonderful meal. If you are free during lunch, 1252 Tapas also offers a “prix-fixe” lunch menu which gives you the option to choose an entree and dessert of your choice for only $15 and a soft drink or iced tea is included. This is available Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
