Uber’s personal mission statement has always been about connecting cities, and there’s no better way to do just that than through food! UberEATS launches in Houston Thursday, October 29, 2015 with the goal to connect people, not only to their favorite restaurants, but help them discover a few hidden gems as well. UberEATS hosted “A Taste of Houston” to showcase some of their participating restaurants, with tastings and a panel of some of our city’s greats. On board were Anita Jaisinghani of Pondicheri and Indika; Morgan Weber of Revival Market, Coltivare, and the highly anticipated ice house Eight Row Flint; Brian Caswell of Jackson St. BBQ, Little Bigs, Reef, and El Real; Chris Williams of Lucille’s and the upcoming Scrappy Browns; and Carlos Ramos of Latin Bites. The chefs spoke about their excitement for this new venture for Houston, and their thoughts on how it could benefit our food loving city.

So, what is UberEATS exactly? It provides a tantalizing curated menu of three different items daily from some of Houston’s best restaurants plus a daily treat of a dessert, cold brew, or juice option. For the debut, they teamed up with their Chef Zero, Ryan Pera of Coltivare – who was recently named Best Chef in the city and Food and Wine’s People’s Best New Chef Southwest. For Thursday’s premiere lunch you can choose between his Slow Cooked Duck & Kale Salad, Black Pepper Rigatoni and Grilled Chicken, plus the option of an exclusive preview of the Carnitas Tacos from his upcoming Eight Row Flint! Each day, the menu will change, but with participating restaurants like Tout Suite, Jackson St. BBQ, Mala Sichuan, Pondicheri, and many more, you can guarantee to make everyone jealous of your lunch any day of the week.

The great thing about this program is that you don’t have to sign up for anything new or download any new apps. It takes place right in your existing Uber app, and uses the same form of payment! All you need to do is drop your pin and look out for the plate icon to appear, if it does that means that you’re in the range for a delicious lunch! Right now UberEATS is restricted to the Downtown and Midtown areas, but they have plans of expanding as soon as possible! It runs Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
