How many of you will admit to having thrown an ice cube or two in your white wine to increase the chill factor? I don’t like to do it often but I will succumb to this method if need be…especially in the case of an inexpensive wine when the taste is not the sole purpose.

We were asked to check out a product on the market called the Napa Wine Chiller, created by OriginalBOS, crafter of whiskey and wine chillers with a cause. It is supposed to take your wine from “room temperature to perfect in 2 minutes”. Everybody’s idea of “perfect” doesn’t necessarily mean that it is the same as mine so I was a little hesitant (the ideal temperature range for white wine is between 49-55 degrees). So, was this gadget capable of maintaining “perfection” for 2-3 hours as it so claimed?

What did hold true:

1. It didn’t dilute my wine. In comparison, this was the biggest plus as you know ice can completely destroy the flavors.
2. My wine did remain chilled for at least 2 hours. I didn’t drink long enough (or slow enough) to measure it for three hours but it did hold the temperature fairly well.
3. It didn’t take long for the wine to reach an ideal temperature. Although I could stand it to be a bit colder for my own personal taste, it chilled pretty quickly.
4. The taste of the wine was not altered in any way.

The only thing I didn’t like was the size of the sphere. It seemed to be kinda large and once I reached the bottom of my glass, I felt like a ball of ice was coming for my face! Maybe the key is to keep your glass filled at least to the middle of the ball and you won’t be “taking it to the head” like I tend to do. Also, the type of glass may also have an influence.

Lover’s of wine understand the importance of maintaining the perfect temperature. If it’s too warm, the wine may become flat and if it’s too cold, you may not be able to tell what you are drinking.

I definitely would use the Napa Wine Chiller again, and on top of that, OriginalBOS also donates 15% of its proceeds to men’s health to increase awareness about testicular cancer. Seems like a win-win to me.

Urban Swank did receive a complimentary Napa Wine Chiller for this review.
