What’s the Skinny?
Ray’s Real Pit BBQ Shack began over 25 years ago when co-owner, pit master, and former Harris County Sheriff, Rayford “Ray” Busch, served his tender and hickory smoked barbeque from a BBQ trailer. In a move followed by many food truck owners, Ray brought his “down home cooking” storefront in 2011 offering customers more of what they loved via a complete dining experience. Joined by co-owners Maxine Davis, the brains behinds the biz, and Herb Taylor, a former NFL player who wears his “pit master in training” title with pride, they are an A+ team.
If passion is what you need to create a successful business, then these three have the secret sauce. Paired with their amazing barbeque and menu items like their grilled catfish and shrimp topped with crawfish tails in a delectable cream sauce, it is no wonder why regulars and newcomers travel to South Houston from all parts of the city just to get a taste of what is smoking on Ray’s “Real Pit”. Come for the barbeque…stay for the experience.
What Did We Love?
Smoked Boudin – This is something serious people! We both LOVE boudin, and feel this is some of Houston’s best smoked Boudin. The extra crunch of the skin seals the deal for us. Urban Girl opts for the mild and Swanky Girl is crazy for the spicy.
Fried Corn On the Cob – The lightly battered corn on the cob has a cult like following. It puts all other deep fried items to shame.
Rib Tips – This one left us speaking in yums! These Chicago Style rib tips are show-stoppers.
