What’s the Skinny?

North Italia is another reason the Galleria area is getting its groove back! Dining around the Galleria area, aside from a few hot spots in Uptown Park, had kinda lost its luster. Now here comes BLVD Place, the new eye-catching dining and retail complex that houses many of our favorites including the recently opened Peska World Seafood and True Food Kitchen.

The decor of the restaurant draws you in immediately and even before you get the chance to sample the cuisine or the cocktails, you are already hoping and wishing that you can add it as your new BFF! So what’s make North Italia so grand, well let’s see…first off, it’s a scratch kitchen – the pasta and pizza dough are made from scratch DAILY which results in some pretty amazing Italian dishes. The ingredients used are locally sourced and as a matter of fact, they have citrus trees growing along the perimeter of the restaurant and we don’t think you can get any more “fresh” than that!

North Italia will definitely be the place to be as this beautiful weather of spring is upon us. When (not if, but when) you visit, we highly recommend the banquette seating area which is positioned on the left side of the restaurant. The seating area lets you feel as though you are dining inside and relaxing at the bar at the same time; all while enjoying the breeze from outside. Yeah…it’s perfection.

North Italia hosts happy hour Monday through Friday from 3-6 p.m. and all day on Sunday (half-off bottles of wine on Sundays as well). They are also open for brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

What Did We Love?

To say we had happy bellies would be an understatement! We ate passed the point of being full; you know when you keep eating because it’s so good, but you just can’t help yourself.

The dishes that won our “GET IN MY BELLY” award for the evening would definitely go to the Bolognese and the Funghi pizza.

The Bolognese (traditional meat sauce, tagliatelle noodle & padano cheese) is the house specialty. I know some of you are thinking it’s just meat sauce and pasta, and we will quickly correct you and reply with “just taste it”! The freshness of the pasta and bold flavor of the sauce are bringing it in a big way.

We heard from several folks telling us which pizza we should try because they were all so good. But in true Urban Swank style we did it our way. We ordered the Funghi (roasted mushroom, cipollini onion, & smoked mozzarella) and added their Italian fennel sausage. It was love at first bite – the crust, sauce, cheese, and toppings all just worked so well together. We can’t wait to get back and try one of the other ones now.
