Where Did We Go?
B & B Butchers
1814 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007
What’s The Skinny?
Houston has had its share of new steakhouse openings this year but B & B Butchers is the one that is transforming the way we think about restaurants where meat is king. When we first visited the Heights steakhouse, our minds immediately drifted to thoughts of Peter Lugers Steakhouse in Brooklyn (New York). Without spending too much time on the comparison, well just say they are holding their own against one of the nation’s best.
At B & B Butchers, two floors allow for two different (but equally divine) dining experiences. One is more reminiscent of a traditional steakhouse with off the floor booths, dim lighting, and exposed brick walls. Upstairs is brighter with floor to ceiling windows that span across the entire front and back walls where the latter overlooks the skyline-view patio which is perfect for gatherings of any kind. The flower arrangements by John Friedman will leave you weak and yearning to take them home and let’s not forget there are bars located on both floors cutting the wait time between you and your beloved cocktail.
When we met Benjamin Berg, Restaurant Proprietor, we really understood the most important aspect of his restaurant…customer service. Everything is well planned from the restaurant to the butcher shop. Servers wheel around old school steel carts to ensure your food comes at the same time, and honestly, it adds to the experience. We found ourselves gawking and what we didn’t order as other patrons were served their meals! The shop/delicatessen is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and serves up some mighty tasty sandwiches (The B & B Italian Special is the top seller), house-made meats and sausages, charcuterie, and you can grab a few dry-aged steaks to go. Did we mention that they also sell cigars? B & B Butchers has left no stone unturned.
What Did We Love?
This place is meat lovers central! They boast a menu of amazing steaks and other delicious proteins. It’s jam packed with dishes that will get you excited about your meal. Here are a few that we thoroughly enjoyed:
- Carpet Bagger On the Half Shell (fried oyster with thick-cut bacon topped with blue cheese) – Some may say this oyster has a lot going on…we say this oyster has a lot that’s going right and we want it in our bellies!
- Any of the Dry-Aged Steaks – Ummm did we mention that they are doing the dry aging in-house? Plus they are very particular about the sourcing of their meat, so they are bringing some of the best from Texas and beyond.
