The 2018 Austin Food + Wine Festival Is Around The Corner!
One of our favorite food festivals of the year is the Austin Food + Wine festival, held in Austin (of course) April 27-29. Adding to the fact that Austin is a short drive from Houston, the celebrity talent, food-centric events, and hand on experiences make this festival a "must attend" for those in the Houston area and beyond.
In the many years we have covered the Austin Food + Wine Festival, we’ve always enjoyed the mix of daytime grand tasting experiences with the awesome nighttime events that combine delicious bites with live music – it’s a weekend full of an unquestionable amount of food and fun.
Just so you are fully prepared and know what to expect, we wanted to provide a quick rundown…
Before the festival kicks off, the Feast Under The Stars prelude will provide the perfect introduction to your weekend adventure. This one-of-a-kind dining experience will feature a 5-course meal (prepared by five award-winning chefs from the festival) inclusive of wine pairings from Jackson Family Wines.
The first day of the festival officially kicks off on Friday night with an event that is all about grillin’ and chillin’. So named, Grillin’ and Chillin’, guests will jump into festival mode with an interactive and lively hands-on grilling dinner party hosted by the one and only Tim Love. And when we say “hands on” we mean it! You’ll be sharpening your grilling skills and mastering a special Surf & Turf menu of buffalo and shrimp, along with grilled seasonal vegetables, and grilled strawberry shortcake. Did we mention the specialty cocktails from Herradura Ultra Tequila and wine selections from Joel Gott and Charles & Charles?
Your Saturday will begin on the festival grounds at Auditorium Shores with Austin Food + Wine Festival’s Grand Taste Pavilion. Attendees will sip, savor, mix and mingle their way through some of the country’s top wine, spirits and culinary exhibitors. The Grand Taste spans over four acres showcasing over 150 of the finest beverage, food and lifestyle artisans from Austin and across the country. We thoroughly enjoy the fire pit stations and this year the larger-than-life Fire Pit is getting even bigger! Think of a cookout hosted by locally and nationally acclaimed chefs who will be smoking and hand-serving a feast of the most mouthwatering eats you’ve yet to try. Where do we sign up? Swing by, grab a bite hot off the fire, and learn a little first-hand grilling advice from the pros.
Rock Your Taco will be the place to be on Saturday night. Watch as the country’s top chefs go head-to-head in an all out competition to see who can create the best taco. You’ll get to sample each of their unique creations and wash them all down with the perfect wine or cocktail. All this paired with a live music performance, Rock Your Taco will be an incredible evening to be a part of. Check out our coverage of this event in 2013 and in 2015!
Start your Sunday with the soulful rhythms of Kings Of Harmony and delicious brunch bites. After brunch, head back to Auditorium Shores for day two of the Grand Taste and Fire Pits. There will be a new set of chefs bringing more tasty eats to round out your weekend. This is a great opportunity to experience any area on the festival grounds that you may have missed on Saturday.
The All-In ticket is $625/per person and includes Saturday and Sunday Festival access; over 40 culinary demos; beer, wine and cocktail tasting sessions; access to the expanded Fire Pits; all-day access to the Grand Taste, including the Chef Showcase; a special Sunday Gospel Brunch; Grillin’ and Chillin’; and entrance to Saturday night’s Rock Your Taco. The Weekender ticket is $250/per person and includes Saturday and Sunday Festival access; over 40 culinary demos; beer, wine and cocktail tasting sessions; access to the expanded Fire Pits; all-day access to the Grand Taste, including the Chef Showcase; and a special Sunday Gospel Brunch.
