If you’re an oyster lover you already have a place or two to go and get your fix. For years I’ve added and removed places from my list. Recently, several friends asked me where I go for oysters on a half shell, then someone else asked about roasted and fried oysters, so I decided to share my list.
As I began putting it together something interesting happened. I noticed that one restaurant kept coming up. What made this interesting is there are not many restaurants or oyster bars in the city that serve oysters lots of different ways on one menu. With that being said I decided that this spot was worthy of getting all the shine and not having to the share the spotlight; since they offer a one stop solution for all our oyster needs. The restaurant is Star Fish Houston! Check out the different ways you can get your oyster fix…
They are serving oysters from the Atlantic (East Coast), from reefs in Galveston Bay, and all over the Gulf. They put special emphasis on bringing some in from better and smaller reefs in Lousiana and Alabama. Even on the weekends, there is a nice variety of oysters in the rotation.
If you are about that sauce life, Star Fish gives you traditional cocktail sauce and house mignonette with an order of ½ dozen or a whole dozen. They also offer six additional signature sauces for those that like a little sauce with their oysters: Sriracha Lime Cocktail Sauce, Sauce Fleur de Chartreuse, Jalapeno Mignonette, Green Goddess, Meyer Lemon Pesto, and Leche de Tigre.
Gulf Coast Shooter
Sometimes a shot will be enough for that oyster fix! The shooter comes with a cocktail or house spicy tomato juice.
Fried Gulf Oysters
These babies come with Cajun remoulade, are fried perfectly and have big flavor! Oh, and did I mention the beautiful presentation.
Wood Grilled Gulf Oysters & Hot Smoked Gulf Oysters
The main differences between these two dishes are the Hot Smoked Oysters have house-made chaurice, garlic butter, and provolone.
If you are more of a purist then I’d suggest going with the Wood Grilled Gulf Oysters with maitre d’ butter and parmigiana.
BONUS DISHES and MORE….
If the above was not enough oyster dishes for you, they also have a salad and a sandwich featuring oysters!
- BBQ Pan-fried Oysters: spinach, pickled red onion salad, Point Reyes blue cheese, crema
- Fried Gulf Oysters & Crisp Bacon: french roll, tomato relish, remoulade, shredded iceberg
You don’t wanna miss their fabulous Martini & Oyster Happy Hour. Featured are oysters priced at $1 (Gulf) and $2 (Atlantic).
Tell us if you’ve visited Star Fish Houston for oysters, and if so what did you order?
