The Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston, the landmark property that is situated in Houston’s preferred Galleria area, is stirring up a number of surprises for guests and the surrounding business and retail district. In early fall, the Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston will debut a chic, grab-and-go food, beverage and retail concept off the lobby, featuring Texas’ newest outpost of the iconic, New Orleans-based PJ’s Coffee.

A ubiquitous sight around the French Quarter, PJ’s Coffee is a mainstay throughout Louisiana, where coffee was first introduced in 1720. There are also has a handful of locations in Mississippi, plus one in Arkansas and far flung spot on the east coast in Highland Park, NJ. Founded in 1978 in New Orleans, where a third of all coffee destined for the continent initially comes ashore, PJ’s Coffee prides itself on its Fair Trade certification, sustainability focus and use of 100% Arabica species beans selected from the top 1% of the eight-million tons of coffee harvested each year.
PJ’s Coffee Roastmaster, Felton Jones, who is personally involved in the development of the Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston outlet, as well as specialty blends for Royal Sonesta, is certified by the Specialty Coffee Association of American in green coffee buying and selling. The company uses green beans originating from 14 countries around the globe, including Sumatra, Ethiopia, Columbia and Kenya. In the Marigny section of New Orleans, PJ’s Coffee is packaged and roasted using a fluid hot air process into varieties that include dark, medium, decaffeinated and flavored. Primary flavors are Southern Pecan and French Vanilla, and Jones also creates seasonal surprises.
Patrons will have a choice of three brewing methods, including espresso, hot drip and cold drip, as well as an assortment of gourmet, high grown teas that are procured under the direction of Global Tea Management and blended and packaged in accordance to the guidelines covered in the British Retail Consortium Global Food Safety Initiative.
The 485-room Royal Sonesta Hotel Houston is a AAA approved Four Diamond, full service hotel located in the heart of the Galleria area, an upscale business, shopping, dining and entertainment district in Uptown. The modern, 23-story property offers 50,000 square feet of function space, several dining options, a swimming pool and 24-hour health club.
