Although I strive everyday to be a rockstar mom, what was considered “cool” when I was growing up has changed drastically! However, when you find something that both you and your child enjoy, you know you’ve got something special.
Central Market Cooking School is always my go to for cooking classes in the Houston area. They are typically hands-on and you would be surprised by the creative class themes and menus that are available. From couples cooking classes, classes that teach you the kitchen basics, to more specialty classes like baking macarons, you’ll find many options to satisfy your cooking curiosities.
Because I know my daughter is a future chef and can make some of the best pancakes you’ve ever tasted, I knew she would be stoked about spending a day making pancakes and waffles! I jumped at the opportunity to reserve Central Market’s Cooking School class, Parent & Child: Pancakes, Waffles & The Dutch Baby.
You are seated at tables of four so with our parent/child class we were paired up with another family. We started off preparing the cinnamon apples that would be used in our Dutch Baby pancakes. We would enjoy these as our third and final dish which would be preceded by pancakes “your way” and chicken and waffles.
The kids took turns assisting each other. As one blended the pre-measured ingredients, the other would man the skillet. It definitely reinforced the idea of teamwork. We all had fun choosing what we each wanted in our pancakes – I opted for blueberry while my daughter piled it on with rainbow sprinkles and chocolate chips.
After taking a quick intermission to enjoy the rewards of
our their hard work, we moved on to the chicken and potato chive waffles. The savory dish would prove to be my favorite and with an addition of maple syrup, my daughter liked it even more. Getting a chance to work with a real waffle maker was fun and schooled the little ones on a few kitchen basics.
The Apple Dutch Baby pancake was a first for me and Ireon. It was cool to make and perfect for the grand finale to our afternoon together. Central Market Cooking School hosts a parent and child class once a month and next up for May is their Parent & Child: Biscuits & Gravy where you will polish your baking skills while whipping up the perfect flaky buttermilk biscuits!
Urban Swank did receive complimentary passes to attend this class, however, the opinions expressed are our own.
