We love Latin Bites Café and the fact that they always have us saying, “Damn, what are they going to do next?!?” They are consistently adding or changing things up over there. Like making every Wednesday night Steak Night where they offer 30% off steaks and bottles of wine or making Thursday nights Ladies night. Yeah, these guys know how to give the people what they want and keep them coming back for more.
Today, they will officially kick-off their new Spring-Summer 2013 Seasonal Lunch menu, which they change 2 to 3 times a year. Chef Roberto Castre will always have a fruit or vegetable from South America that he will feature on the menu. Quinoa (pronounced Keen-wah or Kee-noh-uh) has been chosen and is this season’s selection. Even through it is considered a seed, it is actually a relative of leafy green veggies like spinach and swiss chard. It is native to South America and they use it in everything!. Fun fact…Quinoa’s caloric ratio is 71% carbs, 14% fats, and 15% protein.

Yesterday they had a media lunch to introduce the new menu items and to give us (the media) a chance to taste their wonderful natural tropical fruit juices. I must say that most of the new items are very delicious and all the juices were so GOOD! A few of the stand out dishes for me were…

  • Sashimi Tiradito Tres Sabores – white seasoned fish sashimi, with 3 creamy leches de tigres; aji limo, aji amarillo, and aji rocoto, served with sweet potato puree and choclo. This was a favorite with many of the other diners that took part in this media lunch.  Me and Tyler Rudick (staff writer with Culture Map Houston) enjoyed it so much that we asked for bread to sop up the remaining sauce. Okay don’t judge us; it’s better than licking the dang plate, which originally crossed our minds.
  • Roasted Chicken Club Sandwich – Roasted chicken salad with cranberries, avocado, lettuce tomatoes and shoestring potatoes served on a toasted brioche. Yes darlings I said toasted brioche! That takes this “texture perfect, roasted goodness” to the next level of deliciousness!
  • Natural Tropical Fruit Juices – Guava, Mango, Lulo, Maracuya, Mora, Papaya, Mandarina, Limonada De Menta, Guanabana. All the juices are made fresh in house. They were all so wonderful and refreshing, it is hard to pick one that I liked the best. However, the one that I would most love to mix with a spirit and sip poolside is the Limonada De Menta (#justsayin).

Check out my pictures to view the additional menu items that they will be offering on the new Spring/Summer menu…
