Just because it’s good for you doesn’t mean that it can’t taste great. That is the one thing that has stuck with me as I have personally introduced alternative options for classic recipes that I grew up on in my own home. And that’s why I am so excited about what owner Laura Grinstead is doing with MerryMuffins.

These Vegan Chocolate Cake Muffins are my absolute fave!

With the goal of reducing the amount of fat, sugars and sodium in every single muffin she makes, Laura has come up with some pretty amazing flavors and textures that will guarantee you won’t miss the not-so-good-for-you alternatives. If you love muffins like I do you know how much sugar they normally contain and the associated calories that come along with that. Well at MerryMuffins, you don’t have to sacrifice much at all.

I got a chance to drop by MerryMuffins to try a little bit of everything. There are sweet and savory muffins with both traditional and out of the box flavors. From Banana Nut, Strawberry (GF), and Blueberry (GF), to the tempting Apple Pie (GF), Cherry Cake, Peach Pie (GF), and Chocolate Chip Banana, there is no sweet muffin over 185 calories.

Did someone say Pepperoni Pizza Muffins???

Although I was thoroughly  impressed by the sweet side, I was all over the savory stuff! The options vary from Pepperoni Pizza, Broccoli and Cheese that’s kinda like a mini quiche, Chicken Lasagna, and Chorizo Biscuit. If sweeter muffins are not your thing, you can get just as much satisfaction hanging out on the savory side of the house. This opened up a whole other door for me and I’m looking forward to making my way through all the flavors.

If you wanna know what’s inside, Laura doesn’t use artificial sweeteners and everything begins with whole wheat flours and organic eggs. Apple sauce, monk fruit, cane sugar, and turbinado are just some of the things you’ll find.

If you love chocolate, the Chocolate Coconut Protein Balls will win you over.

In addition to the sweet and savory muffins, MerryMuffins also offers Protein Cookies in Vanilla Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin, and Carrot Cake. The yummy (and highly addictive) Protein Balls should not be missed either. With flavors like Apple Pie, Lemon Nut, Chocolate Coconut (my fave), Cinnamon Vanilla, and Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip, they are great quick and healthy snack that can sustain you in between meals or on your way to a workout.

MerryMuffins is a great place to grab a few healthy treats that are prefect for when you are on the go. And your kids will love them too! After one bite of the Vegan Chocolate Cake Muffin, my 21-month old son just kept saying “more, more, more”! LOL. I think he’s sold.
