A rising star among restaurateurs and food lovers, not to mention among the boatmen, artisans, farmers and ranchers of Texas, Randy Evans is more at home in the kitchen than any other place. Now he’s receiving company.
Evans, executive chef and co-owner of the green-inspired restaurant Haven at 2502 Algerian Way, has announced a trio of monthly cooking classes beginning in January, 2013, and for anyone looking for Holiday gifts that will be remembered, this could be news good enough to eat.
The three, themed classes will be held Sunday afternoons at 4 p.m. in the restaurant. The cost is $60 per person which includes the class and a three-course meal with paired wine. Advance gift cards are available for each class, or (and this is the spice that makes the dish!) purchase a card for all three for just $150.
With Super Bowl fever heating up January, Chef Evans will lead his first class at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, called Soup or Bowl. On Sunday, Feb. 10, he will show how to create a perfect Mardi Gras meal, and finally, on Sunday, March 24, he’ll show how to create dishes taking the best advantage of springtime in Texas.
The informal classes will all delve into the fun and flavors of the restaurant’s now famed “Modern Texas Cuisine.” Evans is the culinary pioneer who put a spotlight on the state’s remarkable diversity of cultural influences in the foods it produces – with the many contributions of the state’s Vietnamese, Mexican, Acadian, German, Czech and Polish communities.
Space is limited for all the classes. To purchase a gift card for one or more classes – $60 per class or $150 for all three – call 713-581-6101. Note – Gift cards are non-refundable and may only be used for the class or classes designated when purchased.
