Jasper’s – The Woodlands, known for its “gourmet backyard cuisine” recently celebrated its tenth anniversary with a fabulous birthday blowout hosted by Executive Chef, Partner and Owner Kent Rathbun. There was no shortage of merriment in the form of fresh cocktails, an oyster on the half shell bar, decadent light bite and dinner buffet stations, a Fat Cat Creamery sundae bar and groovin’ live music by Doppelganger. Jasper’s pulled out all the stops to celebrate in grand form, and rightfully so; restaurants that hit the ten year mark are few and far between.
Highlights from the evening included the tender, perfectly salted rotisserie prime rib as seen on the dinner menu, Texas Gulf crabcakes with avocado serrano cream from the Jasper’s catering menu and the bright oysters brought in specially for the fête.
Perhaps the biggest hit of the evening was the cooking demo for VIP ticket holders by Chef Rathbun, an Iron Chef America winner and James Beard Award nominee. In an intimate private room setting, Rathbun spoke about his love for Wisconsin cheese and his ongoing friendship and frequent partnerships with the most decorated cheesemaker in America, Syd Cook. Without hesitation, he dove right into an enthusiastic demonstration of how to make mushroom bruschetta with black goat truffle cheese, Carr Valley Marisa cheese and beer soup and Carr Valley Billy Blue Panna Cotta topped with cherry preserves. Top-notch wine pairings only made the affair even more memorable.
