Who doesn’t look forward to brunching each and every weekend? Well, if you are like us your love for brunch is probably neck and neck to your love for happy hour! In our new series, Brunch Famous, we wanted to take our admiration one step further. This “best of” list highlights what’s great about some of our local brunch favorites. Whether it be a particular dish, cocktail, the ambiance, or even the way it makes you feel (because feelings are important)…all these spots are worthy of being “Brunch Famous” in one way or another:
B&B Butchers: Patio Famous
Ain’t no patio like a B&B patio because a B&B patio don’t stop! Once you make your way to the second floor, a quick right will land you smack dab onto one of the hottest patios in town! With a live musician setting the tone for what will be a great brunch, B&B Butchers & Restaurant has truly set the bar for Sunday brunch ambiance. This inside/outside patio that protects you from the elements all while allowing the sun rays to grace you with their presence without being overbearing makes this patio the epitome of its friends. Don’t miss their creative brunch dishes like the B&B Hash that marries equally tender potatoes and prime rib or the Monkey Bread that pulls apart like pillows of heaven.
Black & White: Huevos Rotos Famous
Black & White is a beautiful restaurant in the Heights district. Their brunch menu is dotted with many classic brunch favorites. They have a solid chicken and waffle stunner and a red velvet pancake with a candied pork belly side. The restaurant is known to pay homage to Mediterranean cuisine as well. Our favorite was the nod to the classic Spanish breakfast of “Huevos Rotos,” a broken egg dish. It comes with crispy fried eggs atop pan-fried potatoes and Spanish chorizo. You’re meant to break the egg and mix it all up, which is where the “Roto” comes in. It has that classic comfort food feel that transcends cultures.
McCormick & Schmick’s: Benedict Famous
You know us folks here in Texas like everything bigger, and of course better. McCormick & Schmick’s recently unveiled a new brunch menu, and we thoroughly enjoyed their take on the classics (and super-sized portions). Who needs the typical poached egg on an English muffin with hollandaise sauce when you can have the Live Lobster Benedict that ups the ante with a gruyere chive waffle and a heavy hand of bacon hollandaise. Or, how about the Texas BBQ Beef Benedict with its surf and turf of grilled shrimp and braised beef, served alongside a green chili mac and cheese and covered in a drizzle of smoky chipotle hollandaise. And last but not least, the Crawfish Benedict (you know we love our crawfish) served with generous crawfish grit cakes and creamed spinach creating the perfect stage for their crawfish hollandaise.
