As Houston Restaurant Week comes to an end, we took an opportunity to reflect back on the last three years. Why the reflection? For two reasons. One, have you noticed a change in the menus? Yes, exactly…we have to! Second, we wanted to determine if our “faves” were still our “faves”. Did we come across any restaurants that deserve special mention? The Urban Swank Girls have been traveling to Houston Restaurant Week (HRW) locations together for over 3 years now. Our anticipation for this year’s HRW was no different from the previous. However, there is one restaurant in particular that remained at the top of our list and that is Pappa’s Steakhouse!
Pappa’s Steakhouse has the feel of a typical steakhouse…dark color scheme and very loud :-). Sitting is mixed and includes both regular tables and booths. We always tend to sit at the booths across from the bar ~ that’s our favorite spot! Based on an already consistent brand, Pappa’s Steakhouse falls right in line. After talking with the staff, our theories were confirmed. They grow their own produce and 90% plus percent of their ingredients are fresh down to ingredients used in the lemon drop martinis! As we were seated, we began to quickly anticipate the freshly baked bread that would be headed our way shortly. We ordered our favorites, house margarita and lemon drop martinis. The best drinks in town with the best pre-dinner bread…what a combo! What’s next? For our appetizers, we tried the corn chowder which was a good but a little lacking in texture (there’s nothing like a chunky chowder). The Caesar Salad is always a good choice so you can never go wrong there.
Now on to our entrees! We had the New York Strip and the Filet Mignon and shared their French green beans and awesome CRAB MACARONI & CHEESE (you gotta bold such goodness). Did I mention it is awesome? Okay, sorry, moving on. Having your steak cooked at the perfect temperature is a requirement. We are medium rare (occasionally medium) kind of girls. We do not believe in overcooked meat. No judgment. After filling our bellies to the max, there was no room for dessert. We packaged up our cheesecakes and left completely satisfied.
We as consumers know and appreciate brand consistency in many areas of our lives; so it should be no surprise that we are giving Pappas Steakhouse top ratings for not only having great tasting food but for also having consistency throughout their product assortment (yes, I am still talking about food). Anytime we have visited this establishment over the last three years we could always depend on having good service, good food, and good drinks. So whenever we are in the mood for a great steak dinner they are always an excellent choice, because we know all our expectations will be met!
Here are a few of our favorites:
Dry-Aged New York Strip – This one is in Swanky Girls Top 10.
Filet Mignon – This one is in Urban Girls Top 10.
Texas Akasuski Kobe Beef – You’re in for a treat with this one; it will give you a total -TASTEGASISM.
Lobster or Crabmeat Mac & Cheese – These are not menu items, so if you are lucky enough to be dining when they are serving either your taste buds will be doing the happy dance all the way home.
Haricot Vert (French Green Beans for those that did not know…I’m Fancy huh) – They are prepared with just enough snap and bend (perfecto); so if you like them super soft or a bit overcooked don’t order.
Lemon Drop Martini – This will be on our Best Martini list! They make this baby with fresh everything and you can taste the difference.
House Margarita – This will be on our Best Margarita list! It is made with Don Julio and has the perfect blend of sweet and salty!
