If you are a Taco Tuesday aficionado, look no further than Anejo in Uptown Park. From open to close, they serve deliciously crafted street tacos, available for 3 for $10. Don’t expect your typical Tex-Mex selection here. Chef Alberto Gutierrez blends traditional Mexican recipes with popular Tex-Mex favorites to create an “elevated” Tex-Mex cuisine.

Blackened Salmon Taco

Picking three tacos from the street taco menu might be one of the hardest things you’ll do in your life because they all sound so delicious. You can’t go wrong with either the beef or chicken tacos al carbon with fajita meat, guacamole, refried beans and cheddar. The quality of the ingredients and the freshly grilled tortilla makes you feel like you’re at Chef Alberto’s own backyard barbecue. It wouldn’t be a complete taco menu without a selection of seafood selections. The blackened salmon was my personal favorite with avocado and the chef’s special salsa diablo. Not to take away from the grilled shrimp with chipotle aioli or the beer-battered snapper with roasted jalapeño tartar sauce, which were also show-stoppers. Chef Alberto shines the most bright when he is cooking authentic Mexican cuisine. Street taco classics, like carnitas or barbacoa, do not disappoint. Neither does the popular chicken tinga, a slow-simmered chicken in chipotle sauce, that makes you feel like you are having dinner at your abuelita’s house.

Tequila Tasting

Another unique aspect to Anejo is the pride they take in their tequila selection, which is what sets them apart from all the other Tex-Mex joints in Houston. Their bar houses over 100 hand-picked tequilas and mescals. If that makes you feel a little overwhelmed, Anejo also has a full-fledged certified “tequila sommelier” on staff who is well-versed in all things “tequila.” If you’re willing, you can also treat yourself to a special tasting featuring four different tequilas that vary in both age and color. In addition to the Taco Tuesday special, Anejo also offers a 3-7 p.m. happy hour with delicious bar bites and hand-crafted tequila cocktails using top-shelf tequilas, authentic Mexican sodas, and fresh juices for less than half the regular price.

If you’re looking for a detour from your usual Tex-Mex fix, stop by Anejo for Taco Tuesday. Not only can you enjoy the delicious street tacos for $10, but you can also take advantage of the fantastic happy hour specials. Anejo’s quality tequila and elevated Tex-Mex cuisine will make it one of your new happy hour hits and a go-to destination for your Tuesday nights.
