We've been fans of Royal Sonesta for quite some time now. So when we got the news that there was a new chef in town, we were kinda sad to see Chef Peter Laufer go, but we were also stoked to meet Executive Chef Robert Graham! Although he is new to Royal Sonesta, he is not new to creating delicious food. A few fun facts on chef: his mother is Japanese so you'll find a little of his heritage blended into the menu, he's a die hard seafood fan which makes him a perfect fit for the Bayou City, and he is serious when it comes to his plating skills! All Menus Have Been Refreshed
All menus have been refreshed to keep things interesting and to reflect the culinary vision of Executive Chef Robert Graham. If you are a food-loving heavy hitter, we suggest doing a weekend of food at the Royal Sonesta! Grab a group of friends to enjoy dinner at their private chef’s table, Table One, one evening. Head to your room and wake up to either breakfast in bed or at ARA. Then jump in the shuttle for a day of shopping at the Galleria and stop at Axis Lounge once you return for some cocktails and dinner.
Happy Hour Is the Happiest Hour
Happy hour is always a good idea, and when you add a good menu of bites to accompany the drinks, it becomes a GREAT idea. Axis Lounge is on to something with their wonderful offerings. The Brazilian Breakfast and Lonestar Sidecar aren’t to be missed, along with the 44 Farms Sliders and Beef BBQ Brisket and Mac & Cheese Nachos. As a bonus, Monday-Thursday 5-6 p.m. indulge in what they call Texas Flavors, a complimentary sampling from 44 Farms paired with a seasonally inspired local libation.
We Could Eat These Dishes Everyday
Because some of our fave dishes are here, you can’t visit without ordering the Kimchi Fried Farro (wild mushrooms, peas, carrots, bok choy, and a fried egg). If you like traditional fried rice, you will love this twist on it! The farro adds a crunchiness to the dish that introduces beautiful texture that compliments the peas and carrots. Believe us you will not miss the rice! And the Avocado Toast, although simple and straight to the point, is one of the best in the city. And did we mention the Tuna Tartar? Ah-mazing! The new menu is all about shareable plates which makes ARA the perfect spot to grab dinner with your crew.
Because Lunch Is Legit
The lunch menu has changed up a bit and along with a few other quick bites, more sandwiches have been added to this mix. Check out the 44 Farms Burger or the Banh Mi to make your lunch even more legit. There are also plenty of hearty, yet seriously good for you salads, like the Kale & Quinoa Salad that is filling and blended with radishes, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, goat cheese, Craisins, and sherry vinaigrette.
We All Scream For Ice Cream
Yes, they make their own ice cream in house! The flavors change all the time and are unique to say the least. It was love at first bite when we enjoyed a heavenly bowl of the Buttermilk Ice Cream and Coffee Ice Cream. After you taste this perfect summer treat, you too will be screaming for Royal Sonesta’s ice cream!
