Over the last year, Houston’s hotel scene has gotten a major facelift and many new additions. We can thank the Super Bowl being in Houston for that because we had to be ready, and needed to show our many guests that we can host big events. This has also raised the bar for what we expect and want from local hotels. So we thought we’d share some of the fun and visit-worthy things that many of them are doing that have caught our eye…
Modern Day High Tea
When we think of High Tea, we think fancy china, finger sandwiches, scones, ladies in fabulous attire, and a room of people sipping on tea with their pinky’s in the air! This is what we would consider a more traditional high tea so click here to find out where you can experience that right here in Houston. For some folks that seems a little too traditional for them and they want a modern day twist on it, and this is where Hotel Sorella comes in with their High Tea by Radio Milano!
This High Tea offers three different menus, botanically inspired cocktails, a custom curated wine list, and Dammann Freres teas. A few stands out and must-haves are the sweet beet macaroons, cucumber tartare, and any of the cocktails.
A New Look Along With A New Spa
The Four Seasons went through a major multi-million dollar renovation over the last two years that gave them a look that matched its brand! The new look brought with it a new spa and fitness facility along with many other fun additions. The Four Seasons Spa & Fitness Center is top-notch and continuously taking their offerings to new heights. Just this month they’ve added top natural and non-toxic skincare brand, Tata Harper. This Vermont based luxury brand fits right in with the innovativeness and type of services this Spa and Wellness facility offers.
Side Note: If you are a lover of their brunch don’t worry that hasn’t gone anywhere. It is still just as FABULOUS & DELICIOUS as ever. If you haven’t tried it do yourself a favor and get over to Quattro at the Four Seasons stat, it is hands down one of the best brunch buffets in the city.
Custom Curated Experiences
Located in the middle of all things happening, its prime location in the Galleria area (and near the River Oaks District) is not its only draw. At Hotel Derek, you can opt for a quiet evening that combines dinner at Revolve Kitchen + Bar and a nightcap at Tap & Pour, choose from a selection of curated experiences or packages, or you can do it the Urban Swank way and host an epic game night in one of two of their Penthouse Suites. Now a yearly (and highly anticipated) event our Hotel Derek Game Night comes fully equipped with a tasty spread of light bites, a full bar, some friendly competition, and a stunning view of the downtown skyline. So who’s got next?
Downtown Houston’s Newest Hotspot
Open only for a few months now, Hotel Alessandra may just turn out to be the downtown hot spot that the area really needed. It’s European aesthetic blends a minimalist interior with stunning architecture to bring a youthful vibe to a part of town that is just begging for something hip. Dining at Lucienne for brunch or dinner (chef Jose Hernandez will soon become your fave too), heading to the spa, and conversing over a few cocktails in their lounge, and of course booking a gorgeous corner room and ordering breakfast in bed via their in-room iPad, are all ways to enjoy this trendy destination. Don’t say we didn’t give you a heads up that this was going to be the place to be!
Not So Unique, But Worth Mentioning
Home to five culinary concepts, the Marriot Marquis, definitely has embraced the love of all things culinary in this city. Here are a few we think you should check when doing a downtown staycation or just hanging out: Biggio (an upscale sports bar) and Xochi (one of the city’s top new restaurants from award-winning Chef Hugo Ortega).
