At the beginning of each year we start thinking about resolutions, trends, and fashions. This 2013 has not disappointed in any of these categories thus far – except for maybe the resolution part. For now I want to talk wedding trends and fashions.
Some of the top trends that came down during Bridal Fashion Week in New York and here in our city at recent bridal shows – romantic and demure. This included lots of color, blush and pink tones, lace, Peplum and texture. I’m going to step out and assume that a certain new princess had lots of influence with some of these trends, since we saw many of them in her stunning wedding attire.
Lace has never really gone anywhere, but it has definitely moved back to the front seat as a 2013 wedding trend. This Monique Lhuillier gown has lace and is also featured in blush color which is another HAWT trend for 2013.
Brides are taking that leap and mixing and matching textures. This is a way to make things a little more daring and edgy, sweet and sassy, or down right va-va-voom without pushing the envelope too far in any one direction. The above gowns by designer Rafael Cannamo are rich in texture and showcase two very different looks.
We should have known it would not be long before we started seeing the Peplum craze all over the bridal runways too. This has been the must have fashion statement style seen on almost everything in the women’s and girl’s department around the world. Love Colin Cowie’s (Mr. Wedding himself) definition for peplum, “A peplum is a perky bit of fabric that flares out from the waist and magically transforms the dress, skirt or jacket it’s a part of. Typically the peplum is cut on the bias (on an angle) so that it seems to swirl around the body giving a dramatic, romantic look.” (Top gown: Reem Acra & Bottom gown: Monique Lhuillier)
Who says brides have to wear white or even want to these days! Color is the new white and today’s brides are rocking pink, blush, mint greens, and everything in-between. (Top gown: Carolina Herrera & Bottom gown: Issac Mizrahi )
