What’s environmentally friendly, sustainable, exotic, lightweight, and fashionable all year round? It’s nature’s very own, the wooden watch.

The traditional watch (made from metal, rubber, and other materials) will never decrease in popularity, but a new wave of watch brands are stepping up for their 15 minutes of fame; and we hope they stay around a little while longer.

I received my first wooden watch for Christmas last year after browsing through a retail catalog and leaving the page open on the dining room table in hopes that my husband would see it. Long story short…it worked. I was immediately impressed by the craftsmanship but what really wowed me were the beautiful variations in the wood. Made from woods from all over the world including Blackwood from Asia and Rosewood from India, the colors can range from lighter tones that pair well with more casual looks and darker tones that are sophisticated enough to upgrade your evening attire.

Being the watch lover that I am, I immediately went on a hunt to find more brands that I could add to my collection. So, here are a few of my top picks:

We Wood – This is the brand of my first wooden watch. They excel in what I like to call “big face” watches but have some pretty unique wristpieces as well. Their collection is simple and straightforward and their attention to detail is spot on. On top of that, they take pride in our environment and use mostly reclaimed scrap wood.

Spring Break Watches – SPGBK was started by two frat brothers whose goal was to keep the world looking and feeling “fresh”. If you are looking to add a little color to your timepiece, then this may be the brand for you. The watch itself is quite simple, but they add a lot of spunk with a colored bezel and lettering. Go hot pink for the beach, all white for your next all white linen party, or blue with polka dots just because. I think I would look “fresh to death” with one of these on my wrist.

Mistura – This brand is bringing their A game in a major way. When I came across Mistura I was blown away by their creativity and innovation. Blending woods with organic leather and other recyclable materials, their contemporary designs are on another level. You can even customize your band and wood color to make a piece that is truly your very own. These handcrafted timepieces are wearable art, literally.

The best thing about these wooden watches? In addition be being downright cool, they place little stress on your pocketbook. And we calling that #winning.
