The last few weeks have been very busy and kind of draining for Urban Swank; so much so that I didn’t know how much we’d have for Fashion Houston this week. I was thinking, “If I take an Ambien each night to ensure a good nights rest and drink 2 cups of Espresso an hour before the show each day, I’ll have enough energy to make it through”. Well honey dips – screw the Ambien and Espresso – Fashion Houston gave me life this week! The designers came to Houston and ripped the runway with amazing collections that had me fully energized and looking forward to Spring 2014.
It was tough deciding which nights we would attend, but after a few conference calls (no seriously) about it, we decided to attend Wednesday (Bibhu Mohapatra, Peter Millar, Rebecca Taylor, Cut 25, and Nicole Miller), Thursday (Rolando Satana, Chloe Dao, David Peck, and Yigal Azrouel), and our street team writer Dominique would attend Friday night (Johanna Johnson, Zachery Prell, Wes Gordon, and Haute Hippie).
Each night had something very special to offer. I think the major highlight of both nights was being in the crowd for the world premiere of Cut 25 by Yigal Azrouel. This is the handsome designer’s new contemporary line. It was full of edge that seemed to always be balanced with a little bit of a feminine twist.

We also loved his signature collection that showed that black and white are still a power couple; especially if it’s seen through his eyes and his amazing construction.
Designer Rolando Santana really impressed us with his collection of florals, pinks, yellows, and beige tones. This collection seemed like it was made exclusively for us Houston ladies. We like something that works for brunches, happy hours, cocktails and everything in between.
Houston’s own Chloe Dao had the crowd with her first look that walked the runway. This fun and flowy collection showed Chloe doing what she does best, and that’s giving the people what they want. It was full of skirts & dresses – long, midi, and short which we LOVE. Her graphic prints played well into this fun-loving more casual collection.
Sorry, we couldn’t bring you everything from all nine of the designers we saw on Wednesday and Thursday, but check-out the slideshow below for a few of our favorite looks from each of the nine designers. Also, check back soon for Dominique’s recap of the last day; we may even bring you an interview from one of the designers.
