On December 10, 2014, CHANEL unveiled its newly redesigned boutique in Houston at The Galleria.
“The redesigned boutique at The Galleria reflects CHANEL’s dedication to our extremely sophisticated and loyal clientele in Houston,” says CHANEL Inc. Division President of Fashion, Watches & Fine Jewelry Barbara Cirkva. “It is with honor that we introduce one of CHANEL’s most elegant renovations in such an international and dynamic city.”
Gabrielle Chanel once said, “luxury is when the inside is as beautiful as the outside.” In keeping with her spirit, the 5,000 square-foot boutique with a pristine white stone façade is set on one level and houses Ready-to-Wear, handbags, shoes, costume jewelry, accessories and watches. First opened in 1998, the boutique has been transformed by Peter Marino the New York based architect renowned for his ability of re-interpreting the House’s aesthetic codes. Honoring the CHANEL heritage, Peter Marino has brought his sense of detail, craftsmanship and sophistication to the Houston boutique.
The boutique features accents of soft pinks and corals set against the CHANEL palette of black and white. Enter to discover a handbag and accessories area with a white graphite wall where sunglasses, costume jewelry, are displayed. A second accessories area in radiant gold showcases handbags and a selection of watches from the J12, Première and Mademoiselle Privé collections.
The interior of the boutique serves as a nod to Mademoiselle Chanel’s legendary Paris apartment on rue Cambon. A magnificent chandelier by the Maison d’art Goossens hangs prominently overhead in the shoe area. The first Ready-to-Wear salon displays a polished bronze coffee table designed by Ingrid Donat, and sofas reminiscent of those in Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment In the second Ready-to-Wear salon an antique fireplace flanked by dark bronze Christophe Come screens with cabochon crystal detail anchors creates a sense of warmth and luxury.
The boutique will feature the 2014/15 Cruise Dubai Collection designed by Karl Lagerfeld, first shown on the Island off the coast of Dubai. The exquisitely daring and refined collection reflects a timeless journey where East meets West, in which Karl Lagerfeld reinterpreted elements from oriental art with contemporary lines and forms.
Continuing the brand’s long-standing commitment to the arts, as initiated by Gabrielle Chanel herself, a selection of art is housed in the Houston boutique. The curated collection includes a sculptural relief by Patrick Hill, and a stag sculpture by Marc Swanson entitled “Untitled (Crystal Shed Trio, Pile)”.
As Karl Lagerfeld reinvents CHANEL fashion each season with new silhouettes, colors and materials, the CHANEL Houston boutique will serve as the backdrop for an ever evolving, yet timeless expression of what defines the House of CHANEL.
