Back in the Summer when I heard Tarte Cosmetics was releasing a new full coverage contour concealer, Shape Tape, I was super excited! However, when they released it, I found myself shaking my head and hitting them with a “womp, womp, womp” for the poor color selection. Not only was I upset that they didn’t show love to the melanin popping ladies like myself, but they missed several other shades as well.

Now fast forward to September when I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and saw something that made me do a backflip (the flip was only in my head people). Tarte announced the addition of 4 new shades for Shape Tape. Please and Thank You to the makeup gods for answering my prayers! Now you all are probably thinking “that is a whole lot of love for something you have yet to try out or even own yet”; and after I had calmed myself down from the excitement, I thought the very same thing. So the only thing left to do was to purchase the product. Well DAMN DAMN and a side of WTF came flying out of my mouth when I hit the order button, and it was sold out! Yes sold out on Tarte’s site, on Ulta’s site (they have the exclusive), and at the Ulta stores. It was too much for this makeup lover to take, so I had a cocktail and decided it wasn’t meant for me to have this product.

After a month of trying to let it go, one of Urban Swank’s writers and a follow makeup girl, Isabel, mentioned Shape Tape and how she had heard good things about it. The only problem was she had not been able to get it and try it for herself since it was always sold out. At that moment I decided that this craziness must end and we had to try this product out! It took a few weeks of dedication, but I was FINALLY victorious in locating the concealer for the both of us…WHOO HOO!

Now let’s get down to business and find out was it worth all the trouble? Did it live up to the hype?

Am I MAD or NAH…

Claims & Hype About The Product

This creamy radiant 2-in-1 full coverage concealer sculpts and highlights while also acting as a color corrector for dark circles and blemishes. The lightweight formula is hydrating and long-wearing, providing a crease-free blendable matte finish for all skin types. It comes with a large tapered doe-foot wand applicator that’s ideal for precise strobing and sculpting.

Thoughts (Mine & Isabel’s)…Mad or Nah

Ummmm…that would be a big fat NAH! I freaking love this concealer!! It does exactly what Tarte claims, and it lives up to all the YouTube, Instagram, and Internet hype.

If you have oily skin, you will enjoy that it drys to a matte finish without drying out the under eye area. Another love point for me is that it doesn’t crease and I really can rock it without setting powder, which is huge since my eyes leak and I find myself having to fix my concealer more than most. The applicator is huge and picks up a lot of product, so be careful because a little goes a long way since the product is extremely pigmented.

Isabel’s thoughts: I love how lightweight it is, yet so completely full coverage. I can get away with one wand being enough for my full face, and it stays all day! It doesn’t crease or get cakey in my fine lines and under my glasses, major bonus. Super impressed how it holds up with oily skin as well!

Pros

  • Full coverage and long-wearing
  • Works for all skin types
  • Hydrating
  • It does not crease or settle into fine lines
  • Doesn’t need to be set with powder

Cons

  • Availability of product – it’s always sold out
  • Must blend fast because the product sets very quickly

Have you tried Shape Tape Contour Concealer, and if so… ARE YOU MAD OR NAH???

Until soon…Toodles
