With this bipolar weather we are having in Houston these days, it is no surprise to me that my skin is all over the place! Some days it’s so oily I feel like I could squeeze the oil right into my hands. Other days it’s super dry and thirsty. Even if I didn’t have a love for makeup and beauty products, I think I’d still have to always be looking for products to keep my skin on point with the ever-changing weather in this city. Then add in the fact that I travel all over the United States for work and no two cities from the south to east and from the east to west have the same climate conditions.

Being a lover of the Josie Maran Argan Oils and her Pure Argan Milk Intensive Hydrating Treatment for my skin when it starts getting dry and patchy, it was only natural that I would try one of their newer products, Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm, in my skin’s time of need!

Surreal Skin Argan Finishing Balm

Claims & Hype About the Product

It’s the first ever anti-aging skincare finisher and makeup primer in one. This creamy, whipped, lightweight formula finishes both your skincare and makeup routine for a smooth, long-lasting, radiant glow.

Here’s what Josie Mara herself had to say about it, “Why I love it: Makeup glides on seamlessly while the subtle glow awakens the complexion and softly sculpts the face with luminous light. It’s formulated with natural anti-aging powerhouse ingredients that instantly hydrate, plump, and smooth for ethereal, angelic skin.”

Thoughts…Mad or Nah

After doing intense research, I finally picked up this balm during the holiday VIB sale at Sephora. As I dipped my finger into the jar for the first time, I could feel it was as lightweight and as creamy as everyone says it is in their reviews. For me, I am very clear that this would not be my product of choice during my oily days! However, I was not dealing with oiliness at the moment, and my dry skin needed and wanted it. For the first time I used it as a primer, and it left my makeup silky and smooth in appearance with a slight glow. Many claim that this balm has extended and made their makeup last longer. This was not the case for me, and it lasted the normal amount of time. I used it several more times after that and found that the performance was consistent and gave me the same results each time.

So in the end was I MAD or NAH???  I was MAD. Ya girl so wanted to love this product, but I really just thought it was just okay! It definitely has its high moments, like as a finisher over your makeup (crazy good) – but for the price and that 0.5 ounces of product you get, I think there are better primers and finishers out there.

  • It leaves your skin hydrated and radiant.
  • Lightweight
  • When it’s acting as a finisher over makeup, it’s amazing.
  • A little goes a long way.

  • It’s good but not great.
  • The price of the product is high for the amount of product ( .5oz) in the jar.
  • Can cause oily skin to be very oily, so use a little bit less than the recommended amount.

Until soon…Toodles
