Companies offering beauty boxes filled with samples have become a “thing”. We highlighted Birchbox last year, and for the women of color, we now bring you Black Girl Beauty. If offers the same concept – you receive monthly deliveries of curated beauty and lifestyle products that are typically sample sizes from various brands.

It’s a great idea; we just wish we would have come up with it first! What better way to get exposed to new products and try them out before committing to the full size price tag. Both Swanky Girl and I subscribed as soon as we got word on this new company. Their first delivery of beauty boxes hit doorsteps in September of this year. We were excited! Why, you ask? Well, finding products for women of color is not always an easy thing to do and finding a store that carries ethic brands is difficult enough as many items are only available online.

For $20 per month, the Black Girl Beauty box includes 4 to 6 hair, skin, nail, fragrance, and/or makeup products. The box does contain mostly sample sizes, but I’ve found that they will include one full size product as well. You feel like a kid in the candy store because you don’t know what’s coming next. Some things you will use once and others will become future faves that you can’t live without. Like the Korres “Lip Butter Glaze” in Raspberry – the purple tint was just what I was looking for and what a smooth application!

Black Girl Beauty offers a monthly plan and a fixed term plan. You can opt to pay monthly and be charged right before your box is shipped, or you can choose to pay 12 months in advance to save a few dollars – it’s your choice. You can cancel anytime, so I would recommend going for the monthly plan unless you are in for the long haul.

One negative is that we did receive the same lipgloss (just in a different color) on the very next shipment. Reading the card that comes along with your shipment detailing the contents, it may have been the bonus item. With that said, variety is important and we hope they switch it up a bit going forward.
