Recently Aveda and Essence Magazine hosted a Natural Hair event, Naturally Yours, in Houston at Aveda Houston Galleria. This event was not only a conversation centered around and about the flexibility and freedom of natural hair, but it also previewed a few of Aveda's products that are good for natural hair. Sounds pretty amazeballs right?!?!? Well to add the proverbial icing on the cake, the experts for the evening were the famous Vblogger Monica Stevens of Mo Knows Hairs; Celebrity Hairstylist and Aveda's Global Artistic Director, Tippi Shorter; and Essence.com's Hair and Beauty Editor Deena Campbell. Each lady was set-up ready to greet guests and share their favorite Aveda products and any natural hair tips and tricks that work for them.

Since many of us in attendance got a swag bag that included products from Aveda's "be curly" line, I was very excited to sit with Tippi Shorter and get a few tips for us curly girls:

  • Use a microfiber towel or cotton T-shirt to remove excess moisture from hair.
  • To avoid frizz and disturbing the natural texture touch the hair as little as possible during the drying process
  • To enhance and pop those curls, use a blow dryer with a diffuser.

Now on to a few new Aveda "be curly" products that naturals will be happy about and all 3 of the experts love. We will definitely be adding these to our product line-up!

be curly Co-Wash - This sulfate-free low-lathering conditioning wash gently cleanses your scalp and moistures your curls. So what sets this product apart from the rest of the co-wash products on the market? The addition of the babassu and baobab oils! They are absorbed into the scalp quickly, adding the hydration and moisture us curly girl’s need. Note: this product will not be available until June 28, 2015.

be curly Intensive Detangling Masque - This intensive masque has organic babassu and shea butter that helps separate and detangle your curls, while also adding extra moisture and fighting frizz. Note this product will not be available until June 28, 2015.

This final product is not new for Aveda, but if you are like me you’ve been sleeping on it. It’s their Dry Remedy Daily Moisturizing Oil. It's 99.9% naturally derived with the hydrating power of buriti oil, which heals dry and brittle hair. While also providing instant moisture to the hair, leaving it soft and shiny. Other reasons to love it:

  • It's lightweight so it doesn't weigh the hair down.
  • No silicone which keeps moisture from absorbing inside the hair.
  • It works on ALL types of hair.

Take a look at a few fun shots from the event!
